AND I've now added an entry for the 4th
August 1894
as on the top of Daniel's Attestation Papers, in a different hand and
paler ink, is "Corps R Lancaster Rgt/ Joined at Fort Widley/ on 4 Aug
1894".

April 2015
I'VE re-done the 'Days in the Lives of' entry for 3rd August 1894, after
examining Daniel Ealey's Attestation Papers, which put him in
Canterbury, not Fort Southwick, on that day.

HAVE been tinkering with formats and images, particularly in
the footer. If anything looks weird, try hitting F5 to refresh the page
and replace redundant files. If it still looks weird, then you're
probably using a browser and/or
operating system I haven't tested. Or I'm just blind to the weirdness.

I'VE been experimenting with Photoshop, and uploaded a better version
of the portrait
we believe to be of Jane
Matilda Sperrin. It's a large-ish 5.3mb, but should be good
for printing.

March 2015
UPLOADED the 'Gallery'
page.
29 March 2015
ADDED a Navigation Link to access a random page, image, or document from the website. I like randomness - it's restful to let chance do the thinking once in a while. Javascriptsource.com kindly provide the necessary code.

March 2015
CREATED a page about the surname
'Annett'.
Not advisable to be read by the scholarly.
Also, I've begun altering the format of the site, using divisions,
rather than a table layout. This makes it possible to add captions to
images and to centre the page on the screen. It will take a while to
work through the whole site so, until I do, there will be slight
variations in appearance from one page to the next.

MADE a few cosmetic tweaks. Those pesky underlinings of links, for
example – got rid of them at last. Have also reduced the dimensions of
the header above [on the Home Page],
and
might shrink it further. I don't want to banish it altogether. Delhi
was the last place the family lived before leaving India, making it a
fit subject for a header, and out of all our Delhi photographs this one
appealed to me the most. Then, the more I looked at it, the more
significant it became. That road, straight as a blade, could be a line
cut back through time. And there's a going and a coming either side:
the left half a bit dark and blurry, with a solitary vehicle – a jeep,
my mum suggested – motoring off into the dimness; the right brighter
and sharper with two figures striding towards us like cast members
stepping out into the light. The text, by the way, is in an Anglo Saxon
style font. It was my little joke. An Anglo font in an Indian scene.

January 2015
Finally added another page to the 'Days
in
the Lives of...'
section. I kept questioning, could I ever know
enough about the times or circumstances to produce three
hundred or so valid words? Well, probably not. But from now on, I
shall simply do the best I can with what I've been able to discover,
and make tweaks and amendments when I know better.

So,
it turns out that it was an add-on
in Firefox
that was causing the problem. I disabled Skype Click-to-Call (don't
even remember installing it) and the links seem to work fine. Phew.

March 2014
I've
just noticed that links to anchors
in other
pages (e.g. from the 'lines' page to names in the descendancy
charts) don't work in Firefox. This only happens once the pages are
uploaded from my computer to the internet. Locally they're fine. And
with Internet Explorer they're fine. It's going to take me a while to
work out how to solve this problem. Meanwhile, apologies for the
annoyance.

A big thank you to all those who have emailed me over the past couple
of years to share information and even pictures of family members.
Margaret Ward, Aradhana Gupta and Chelsea Hawkins in particular have
kindly introduced me to many new ancestors along our Chopin and Ross
roots. I've behaved myself, and checked out the connections via
internet databases wherever possible, but the usual advice to seek out
primary sources for yourself applies.
- improved (I hope) the display of most pages, cleaned up the html as far as I'm able, and updated external links whose targets had disappeared. As they do.
- added charts for names that branched off from the main line, when daughters married and had children. I haven't been very methodical about this, just created them on an ad hoc basis.
- greyed the font a bit for people who married into the lines, but weren't part of the ancestral gene pool - spouses, in-laws and step-siblings for example. This seems pedantic, but helped keep me focused. When I found myself with a page of greyish names I knew it was time to get a grip and return to the main ancestral lines.
- ignored Google's advice about limiting the amount of links per page and combined the 'Dates' section into a single page. I figured if the APOD archive is acceptable, with more than a decade's worth of daily links on a solitary page, then so is my modest Events list.
There are still only two pages in the 'Days
in
the Lives of...'
section, which grieves me. Hopefully, I'll soon be getting back to the
two Daniels and following their very different paths.
I'm also working on a 'Gallery' section, just for photographs.

Jun 2012
Increased the line spacing on all the charts so they read more easily.
I don't know why I didn't do this from the start :(
Also amended a few links to FamilySearch
pages that had changed.

Apologies to all those who have emailed me and not received a reply.
For reasons best known to itself, the website stopped forwarding mail
and I just assumed traffic was quieter than usual. I'll be dealing with
the backlog (it goes back to November 2011!) during the next couple of
weeks.
